I was born on April 13th, 1989 in Chicago. I share a birthday with Thomas Jefferson, Jacques Lacan, and my identical twin, Andrew. For the first eighteen years of my life I did not leave the flatlands of America. This instilled in me an unquenchable love for the mountains and ocean.

Initially I wanted to study music, but due to fortuitous encounters with some great Californian pedagogues, I began to pursue philosophy. I received a B.A. in Continental Philosophy and Psychoanalysis from the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies in 2011, an M.A. in Philosophy from Duquesne in 2013, and a PhD from Staffordshire University in 2016.

I reside on Skyline Blvd in the Bay area, where I have been teaching Philosophy since 2018. I currently teach at the University of San Francisco, Mt. Tamalpais College, and the College of Marin. My courses range from Ancient Greek Philosophy, Existentialism, and Aesthetics. I am a proponent of experimental education methods, and am currently teaching an outdoor course Hiking with Nietzsche.

My most recent publication is Nietzsche and Van Gogh: Imaginations of 1888, a dual biography of the thinker and artist centered on a single year. You can listen to a podcast concerning the text here. I’ve also served as editor and contributor to the volume Understanding Nietzsche, Understanding Modernism, and have published articles concerning Nietzsche.
